Federal Flammability Regulations for Outdoor Furnishings


Bill Perdue, AHFA’s vice president of regulatory affairs, will present an update on the federal flammability standard as it relates to outdoor furnishings. Bill will provide dos and don’ts for manufacturers and retailers to avoid violating the newly enacted COVID-19 Regulatory Relief and Work From Home Safety Act that was signed by President Trump on December 27.

Bill Perdue

Bill Perdue is the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for the American Home Furnishings Alliance, a trade association that represents more than 200 home furnishings manufacturers and importers and approximately 150 suppliers to the home furnishings industry worldwide. Perdue has more than 20 years experience in the furniture industry dealing with air, water, and waste regulatory issues. His responsibilities at AHFA include oversight for all regulatory and technical standards impacting furniture manufacturers and importers. In this role he serves as the industry’s primary liaison with ASTM, UL, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and any other regulatory agency addressing environmental, health or safety issues impacting furniture manufacturers.
